Nowadays, technology is everywhere: energy is used to produce devices, to operate them, to dispose of them.With Megaphone we meant to create a completely low tech product which aims at making one reflect upon the importance of things and the potential value of everything that surrounds us.On the other side, in clear contrast, stands the technological device par excellence: the mobile phone, which is widely used and which at times has even become a status symbol, as in the case of the iPhone. We have tried to put into practice the wise teachings of our grandfathers, that is to say to always try to optimize everything we have and to reduce waste. We have focused on emphasizing, developing and making the most of what we already had at our disposal. We have worked on the sound performance of the iPhone 4 speakers, which is fairly good in itself but not enough to fill a room. Then we have started to study how to passively amplify this device, without introducing "technology" and without using supplementary energy for it. We have developed and tested different design solutions always striving to strike a balance between shape and function, in order to optimize both the acoustic performance and the aesthetic side of the object.
